As Ronna McDaniel was reelected in a high-profile and explosive contest that could harm the party as it gets ready for the campaign for the White House in 2024, notable Indian-American attorney Harmeet Dhillon lost her bid to become the chairperson of the Republican National Committee (RNC). The incumbent, Ms. McDaniel, who was chosen by former US president Donald Trump to lead the RNC in 2016, faced Ms. Dhillon, 54, a former co-chair of the California Republican Party.
Having collected 111 votes to Ms. Dhillon’s 51, Ms. McDaniel, 49, easily won reelection in a secret ballot on Friday for a second term in office. The defeat of Ms. Dhillon is also considered a blow for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has recently emerged as a formidable rival to Trump in the race for the Republican nomination in 2024. Mr. DeSantis had last-minutely endorsed Mr. Dhillon.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we failed. The RNC, however, will benefit from the difficult discussions that were sorely required about how to change the RNC to win elections and earn the confidence of our supporters, activists, and funders, After the election results were announced, Ms. Dhillon made a statement.
Each of us is necessary. The grassroots have been heard. We understand. Mike Lindell was also audible, as was Harmeet. When the Democrats regain control of the White House and the Senate in 2024, however, we will be heard because we are all working together and unified, After winning the election, Ms. McDaniel remarked.
