The projects were approved at the fifth Mission Steering Group (MSG) meeting, which Union Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal presided over.

In order to establish India as a pioneer in technical textiles on the international stage, the Union Cabinet approved the NTTM in 2020. The NTTM seeks, among other things, to support the development of domestic machinery and processing equipment for technical textiles in order to support Make in India and enable industry competitiveness.
In his remarks at the gathering, Goyal urged the top textile companies and research organizations to collaborate in order to produce strategic, high-value technical textile goods locally with the help of the NTTM. The minister further invited the leading academic and engineering institutions, both public and private, to submit applications as soon as possible under the NTTM-established rules for education and internships. During the conference, he also examined the development of earlier approved R&D projects funded by NTTM.
