Local political leaders gathered on August 15th to mark the nation’s 80th Independence Day with calls for unity and progress. Speaking at the regional party office after raising the national flag, Greater Bangalore President H.M. Ramesh Gowda urged citizens to set aside religious, caste, and social differences. He emphasized that building a clean, corruption-free country requires the active participation of every single resident.
Highlighting the nation’s journey over the past 8 decades, Ramesh Gowda pointed out massive global advancements in agriculture, technology, space exploration, and the economy. He noted that India has transformed into a self-reliant powerhouse capable of guiding the international community.
The event also marked a major historical milestone. Exactly 30 years ago, former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda hoisted the tricolour at the historic Red Fort as the nation entered its golden jubilee. Ramesh Gowda reminded attendees that Deve Gowda, a humble farmer’s son, used that historic platform to showcase the profound strength of Indian democracy and the constitution.
Furthermore, leaders praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hoisting the flag at the Red Fort today while prominent figures, including Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and former Chief Ministers, witnessed the historic moment. State Core Committee President M. Krishna Reddy also addressed the gathering, alongside several other senior party officials and legislators who attended the commemorative morning ceremony.
Party figures stressed that national development relies heavily on remembering past achievements while inspiring the upcoming generation to work toward a unified and prosperous future. They encouraged everyone to uphold constitutional values and contribute actively to ongoing social growth.

Deve Gowda, as August 15, 2026, marks exactly 30 years since he hoisted the Tricolour from the Red Fort in 1996 during India’s golden jubilee celebrations. Ramesh Gowda recalled how a leader from an ordinary farming background rose to the highest office, demonstrating the true strength of Indian democracy and the Constitution. He also noted the presence of Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and other leaders witnessing Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoist the flag at the Red Fort.
