The Bengaluru East City Corporation marked India’s 80th Independence Day with immense enthusiasm, solemn pride, and a strong focus on civic duty. Commissioner D.S. Ramesh led the morning celebrations by hoisting the national flag at the municipal office while attendees sang the national anthem together.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Ramesh paid tribute to the legendary freedom fighters whose painful struggles and supreme sacrifices secured the nation’s independence. He stressed that freedom is not just about exercising personal rights; it carries a heavy duty to fulfill everyday responsibilities sincerely. Building a prosperous country and securing a bright future for the upcoming generation rests squarely on the shoulders of every single resident.
A major focus of the commissioner’s speech was urban cleanliness. He emphasized that maintaining a spotless, beautiful, and advanced city requires teamwork between dedicated municipal workers and cooperative residents. Ramesh urged the public to stop throwing garbage indiscriminately, practice proper waste disposal, keep public spaces tidy, and protect community property.
As part of the festive traditions, the commissioner handed out sweets to the children and local pourakarmikas who attended the event, sharing warm holiday greetings with everyone. While chatting with the young attendees, he encouraged them to focus on their education, build strong discipline, and grow into patriotic, responsible citizens.
He also expressed deep gratitude toward the pourakarmikas, praising their tireless daily efforts to keep public health safe and the city clean. Several high-ranking officials attended the inspiring ceremony, including Additional Commissioner for Development Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, Additional Commissioner for Revenue Pragya Ammeambal, and Chief Engineer M. Lokesh, alongside various staff members, civic workers, and local families.
