The Commissioner directed priority tree management, canopy maintenance, and proper identification details on forest wing vehicles for public assistance

Bengaluru West City Corporation Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K.V. inspected the forest wing’s staff and equipment management system and directed officials to improve tree maintenance operations across the corporation limits. The inspection included canopy management teams and Rapid Response Teams working for public safety.
The Commissioner instructed officials to conduct priority-based management of roadside trees and ensure proper maintenance of tree canopies. He also directed that forest wing vehicles should display the corporation name, assembly constituency details and helpline number for easy public identification.
Officials were asked to introduce biometric attendance for forest staff, ensure timely salary payments and provide necessary safety equipment. Regular health check-ups for workers were also ordered. The Commissioner suggested restructuring existing night shifts, day shifts and Rapid Response Teams into a more effective system.
He directed that cranes used for tree operations must have GPS facilities and should accompany canopy management teams. Cleared tree materials and waste should not be left on roads. Temporary timber yards must be created with security arrangements for proper disposal and storage.
The Commissioner stressed the importance of responding quickly to public complaints and preventing risks to human life. Necessary action should be taken on grievances received through the helpline, he said.
The corporation’s forest wing currently has five cranes, 17 tempos and 15 staff teams. Each team includes eight members with drivers, supervisors, skilled and unskilled workers. Teams are equipped with power saws, ropes, machetes, poles, helmets and jackets to carry out tree maintenance activities safely and efficiently across Bengaluru West. The measures aim to improve urban greenery management while ensuring better safety for residents and workers.

City officials plan 100 saplings per constituency
The Corporation Commissioner directed forest officials to conduct the ‘Hale Beru Hosa Chiguru’ campaign within city limits to increase greenery through tree plantation. The initiative focuses on planting saplings after removing dried or cut tree stumps, or growing new plants in suitable spaces around existing stumps. The Commissioner instructed officials to plant 100 large-growing saplings in each Assembly Constituency area and identify ‘Vrikshamitras’ to protect them. Citizens will also be involved in selecting suitable plantation spots. Assistant Conservator of Forests Santhosh Kumar and Deputy Range Forest Officers attended the meeting held at the Corporation office.
