Drug-free day to mark Mahant Shivayogi anniversary

Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Audrama instructed local officials to complete all preparations to observe Drug-Free Day in a meaningful way on August 1 at the Government Pre-University College in Gandhi Circle.

The special event marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Mahant Shivayogi. The additional commissioner presided over a preliminary meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office hall, bringing together the district administration, zilla panchayat, health services, education sectors, and cultural departments. The schedule will feature educational lectures focused on the severe dangers of substance abuse.

Dr. Audrama emphasized that participating departments must fulfill their responsibilities properly to educate students, youth, and the general public. Dr. Mahant Shivayogi spent over forty-five years working tirelessly to free common citizens from addictions through door-to-door social reforms, recognizing that mental transformation is the foundation of lasting change.

Per official government orders, tahsildars across all talukas must observe the birth anniversary as Addiction-Free Day with public awareness events.

The planning session saw strong attendance from municipal and district leaders, including Corporation Commissioner Vijaya Mekkalaki, Social Welfare Deputy Director Mahesh Potadara, Youth Empowerment Assistant Director Rajashekar Daiwadi, Kannada and Culture Assistant Director Santosha Bhovi, Bheemaraya Jigajinagi, Somanagouda Kallur, M.R. Gurikara, M.C. Mulla, Mahadeva Ravji, and Fayaza Kaladagi, alongside numerous departmental officers and organizational representatives.
