Chikkamagaluru court receives email bomb threat alert

Chikkamagaluru

An email threat claiming a bomb would be detonated at the Chikkamagaluru District Court created brief panic on Thursday, prompting a swift response from the police department and a full-scale security operation on the premises.

According to officials, the threatening message was received on the court’s official email ID, stating that an explosion would occur between 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm. Immediately after the alert, the district police converted the court complex into a high-security zone and deployed bomb disposal and dog squads to conduct a thorough inspection.

Police teams checked court halls, office rooms, corridors and public movement areas as part of the precautionary search operation. Senior officers also monitored the situation closely, ensuring that security protocols were strictly followed throughout the exercise.

Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama visited the court premises and reviewed the security arrangements. He instructed officers to intensify the search and ensure that all safety measures were effectively implemented during the operation.

Despite the threat, judicial proceedings were not suspended, and court activities continued under heightened security. This led to temporary tension among lawyers, staff and visitors, although authorities maintained that all precautionary steps were being taken to avoid disruption.

Police sources said that the threat is being treated seriously and a cyber investigation has been initiated to trace the origin of the email. Officials are working with technical experts to identify whether the message was sent by an individual or an organised group.

Authorities added that only after a complete inspection will it be confirmed whether the threat was genuine or a hoax. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over repeated false bomb threats targeting public institutions, prompting calls for strict action against those responsible.
