A public protest meeting was held in Shringeri near the MESCOM office, organized by local units of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal. The gathering addressed concerns related to alleged cow slaughter incidents, law enforcement response, and growing tensions around religious and social issues in the region.
Speakers at the event included community representatives and local leaders such as Raghavan Padivel, who expressed concerns about the continuation of illegal cattle slaughter despite existing laws. He urged authorities and the public to remain vigilant and ensure strict implementation of regulations related to cattle protection.
Participants at the meeting stated that cows hold cultural and religious significance for many Hindu communities, and they emphasized the need for stronger enforcement of existing legal provisions. The speakers also raised concerns about delays or reluctance in filing cases by certain authorities, calling for more consistent action.
Another speaker, Divir Malnad from Shringeri VHP, highlighted issues related to alleged illegal activities in the region and urged increased awareness among local residents. He also spoke about maintaining social harmony while insisting on stronger preventive measures from law enforcement agencies.
The protest march began near the bus stand and proceeded through the main street before concluding at the MESCOM office. Several local political and community figures, including former minister D.N. Jeevaraj and BJP representatives, were present during the gathering.
Participants called for unity among community members and encouraged people to report incidents promptly to authorities. They also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and cooperation among different sections of society while addressing concerns through legal and democratic means.
Authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the specific allegations mentioned during the protest. However, the event concluded peacefully with organizers reiterating their appeal for stricter enforcement of existing laws and greater public awareness on the issue.
