A major road accident occurred on the Korthi–Kolhar bridge on the Vijayapura–Hubballi National Highway, when a tipper truck plunged into the Krishna River after reportedly losing control while overtaking a car. The driver, Santosh Koti, is feared to have been swept away in the river, and search operations are underway. The cleaner Sanju Mallappa was rescued safely. Two occupants of the car involved sustained minor injuries and were treated on the spot. Fire and rescue teams, along with police, are continuing operations to trace the missing driver and investigate the exact cause of the accident.
