Mandali said Karnataka’s solar energy growth reached over 20,000 households, supporting green energy initiatives and clean power goals
Gadag District Campaign Committee President Ashok Mandali has accused the BJP government of misleading people over solar energy policies and alleged that the party is protecting corporate interests instead of focusing on public welfare.
Addressing the issue, Mandali said the BJP was taking full credit for the PM Surya Ghar scheme while ignoring the burden created by infrastructure costs on the state. He questioned the claims made by BJP leaders regarding the reduction in solar power costs and said consumers were still facing problems due to taxes and expensive loans.
He stated that solar power costs have reduced significantly and questioned why consumers were still paying additional charges. According to him, the Congress has already contributed to renewable energy growth in Karnataka by supporting solar power generation and helping thousands of poor families receive electricity benefits.
Mandali claimed that Karnataka has achieved major progress in solar energy production, with systems installed in more than 20,000 households. He said these initiatives have helped strengthen the state’s green energy movement and supported the goal of clean power.
He also criticized the BJP’s comments regarding the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission’s draft tariff changes. He said the commission had scientifically reviewed solar energy rates based on various factors and reduced the purchase rate due to falling solar costs.
The Congress leader alleged that earlier policies created financial pressure on electricity supply companies and resulted in revenue losses. He claimed that the burden could have affected ordinary consumers if rates were not revised at the right time.
Mandali further said that the Congress government was working to maintain a balance between renewable energy growth and public interest. He accused the BJP of attempting to create confusion among people for political reasons.
He added that when solar installation costs come down and government support is available, consumers can benefit without facing heavy financial pressure. He alleged that previous policies treated solar energy as a facility mainly for wealthy sections instead of making it accessible to everyone.
The Congress leader concluded that energy policies should support common citizens and ensure fair opportunities. He said the focus must remain on strengthening public systems while promoting clean energy development across Karnataka.
