Rajinikanth and Kamal film now expected in 2027

The much-awaited multi-starrer featuring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan is likely to take longer than fans hoped, with new reports suggesting that the project may only begin production in 2027. The film is planned to be directed by Nelson, but his current commitments have pushed the timeline further.

Director Nelson is presently focused on completing Jailer 2, the sequel to the successful action entertainer starring Rajinikanth. The film is expected to release in the final quarter of 2026, though the makers are yet to confirm an exact date. Industry talk suggests possible festive windows such as September, the Ayudha Pooja period in October, or the Diwali season.

Because of this packed schedule, the collaboration between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan is expected to start only after both stars and the director finish their ongoing projects. The project has already created huge excitement, as it brings together two of Tamil cinema’s biggest icons on screen after many years.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth continues to maintain a busy lineup of films. Reports indicate that he has planned his professional commitments for the next three years, focusing on working with both established and emerging filmmakers. The veteran actor is also expected to begin shooting for director Ashwath Marimuthu’s upcoming commercial entertainer by the end of June, a project that has already generated strong interest among fans.

With multiple films in progress, Rajinikanth remains one of the most active stars in Indian cinema. While fans eagerly wait for the historic reunion with Kamal Haasan, the film is now shaping up as a major cinematic event that will likely arrive only after 2026, once schedules align.
