Police across the district have intensified operations against drug trafficking networks, registering over 1,600 arrests under the NDPS Act in 2025–26, officials said. In 2025 alone, 1,224 cases were registered and 1,363 accused arrested, including commercial-level drug offences. According to police data, 193 NDPS cases have already been recorded in 2026 with 241 arrests so far. Authorities said special surveillance has been increased in schools, colleges, bus stands, railway stations and coastal areas to prevent drug supply to students. The Excise Department also conducted parallel operations, seizing ganja and synthetic drugs, including MDMA, as part of coordinated enforcement efforts.
