Opposition leader R. Ashok has urged the government to increase the compensation for the victims of the recent Hassan accident, saying that since all the deceased were villagers, Rs 10 lakh per family would be more appropriate.
“This tragic incident should never have occurred, especially during Ganesh Chaturthi. My condolences to the families. The government has announced Rs 5 lakh for each family, but considering all the victims are from villages, I request the amount be doubled to Rs 10 lakh. I plan to visit Hassan to gather full details from the DC and other officials and will also meet the injured in hospitals. The government must ensure proper treatment for the injured in Bengaluru and Mysuru,” he said.
On Ganesh immersion in Chitradurga, he noted, “The immersion takes place on a large scale every year. Authorities must take preventive measures and deploy police from neighboring districts to maintain safety. Miscreants should not be allowed to create trouble by throwing stones or inciting communal tension. Local Muslim leaders have also advised that processions should not be obstructed. The government’s leniency encourages troublemakers, so strict action is necessary.”
He also criticized delays in the Dharmasthala case investigation, stating, Investigations are being slowed to protect certain individuals. The SIT appears unenthusiastic and is not following leads in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, or Delhi. This seems like an effort to close the case prematurely. Major offenders must be brought to justice, but the government seems to be shielding them. If delays continue, the BJP will intensify its protests.
