PSG stars sweep major honours while club closes in on another league title.
PARIS
Ousmane Dembélé has been voted Ligue 1’s Player of the Season for the second consecutive year, continuing Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance of French football’s top individual honours.
The award marked the 10th straight year a PSG player has claimed the prestigious honour. Former PSG superstar Kylian Mbappé had previously won the award five times in succession before leaving for Real Madrid.
The last non-PSG player to receive the award was Alexandre Lacazette while playing for Olympique Lyonnais in 2015.
Dembélé played a crucial role in PSG’s title-winning campaign last season, scoring 21 league goals before later winning the Ballon d’Or. However, injuries have limited his impact this season, with the French forward managing 10 league goals and starting only nine matches under coach Luis Enrique.
Despite his reduced domestic appearances, Dembélé has remained influential in the UEFA Champions League. His early goal against Bayern Munich in the semifinal second leg helped PSG secure a 1-1 draw and advance 6-5 on aggregate.
PSG will now face Arsenal in the Champions League final on May 30 as they pursue a second consecutive European title.
PSG youngster Désiré Doué was named Ligue 1’s Best Young Player for the second straight season. The 20-year-old forward recently scored the winning goal against Stade Brestois 29, moving PSG closer to a record-extending 14th league crown.
Meanwhile, Pierre Sage won the Best Coach award after guiding RC Lens into an unlikely title challenge despite operating with significantly fewer resources than PSG.
Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser claimed the Best Goalkeeper award, while Haiti international Melchie Dumornay was voted the top women’s player after starring for OL Lyonnes in a remarkable campaign.
