Participating in sports helps maintain mental and physical fitness, emphasized Deputy Commissioner CN Sridhar during the inauguration of the Belagavi Divisional Level Dasara Sports Meet on Thursday at KH Patil District Stadium. Organized by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, and Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, the event brings together athletes from across the division for two days of competitive football and hockey.
Speaking at the event, Sridhar highlighted the importance of sportsmanship, urging athletes to accept victory and defeat equally and strive to bring glory to their districts at the state level. He also underscored that active participation in sports promotes balanced development of mind and body.
Akbarsaba Babarji, Chairman of Gadag Betageri Urban Development Authority, welcomed athletes from various districts and said that winning or losing is secondary—what matters is participation and adherence to the rules. District Level Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority Chairman BB Asuti lauded the district’s hockey players for gaining international recognition and encouraged greater participation in the divisional games.
Assistant Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Department Dr Sharanu Gogeri shared details of the event, noting that football matches are being held at KH Patil District Stadium, while hockey matches are hosted at Mahatma Gandhi Hockey Stadium, Gadag Betageri. Municipal council members Suresh Kattimani, Mohana Kattimani, Hanumanthappa Veerapura, HB Gadatada, Sarfaraj Sheikh, MA Yaagudi, along with physical education teachers and athletes from various districts, attended the event.
