PM Modi surveys Punjab floods, announces Himachal aid

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Punjab, which is facing its worst deluge since 1988. Modi, on a one-day visit to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, is reviewing the situation and coordinating relief efforts with senior officials. He will also chair a ground-level review meeting in Gurdaspur and interact with flood-affected residents, as well as NDRF, SDRF, and Aapda Mitra teams working on relief operations.

Modi announced immediate assistance of Rs 1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh, which has also been severely impacted by heavy rains. He first surveyed the affected regions from the air and later held a review meeting in Kangra to assess damage and relief measures. During the visit, he met families impacted by the floods, offering condolences to those who lost loved ones and expressing deep sympathy for their suffering.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the central government will further examine damage assessments based on reports from the state and central teams to ensure effective relief and rehabilitation. He acknowledged the severity of the situation in both states and assured that the Centre is committed to making all efforts to help affected people and restore normalcy.

Modi’s visit underlines the government’s proactive approach to managing natural disasters and highlights the coordination between state and central agencies in providing timely aid and support to those affected by the unprecedented floods in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
