Bengaluru South GBA Commissioner’s Inspection Drive

Focus on Flood-Prone Zones as Officials Stress Preparedness

Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner Shri Ramesh K.N., accompanied by the Chief Engineer of Zone-2 (South), carried out an inspection of rain-prone and vulnerable locations on Saturday. The inspection particularly focused on areas near Oxford College and Hongasandra Metro Station, which have witnessed frequent waterlogging during heavy rains.

The visit aimed to assess existing drainage infrastructure, review preventive measures, and ensure readiness to tackle monsoon-related challenges. Officials highlighted the importance of clearing stormwater drains, strengthening retaining walls, and improving water flow systems to mitigate flooding risks.

During the inspection, Commissioner Ramesh K.N. instructed engineers to expedite desilting works, remove blockages, and deploy quick-response teams in case of emergencies. He stressed the need for coordination between civic agencies, traffic police, and local stakeholders to ensure public safety and prevent disruptions caused by heavy rainfall.

The Chief Engineer briefed the Commissioner on the steps being taken to reinforce vulnerable stretches and assured that contingency plans were in place. Residents were also urged to cooperate with the civic body by avoiding dumping of waste into drains, which often leads to blockages and waterlogging.

The inspection reinforced the BBMP’s proactive approach in addressing rain-related issues in Bengaluru South, reflecting its commitment to safeguarding citizens and minimizing the impact of monsoons on urban life.
