MEG has always been at the forefront of sporting excellence especially in water sports of rowing and sailing. As an apt recognition of its ‘quest for excellence’ and in line with the national goal of nurturing Olympians, sailing discipline in BSC MEG was introduced in the year 2015. An excellent, specially chosen venue was developed at KRS Dam which to provided ideal conditions for inland sailing as also offshore sailing (less the tidal condition) sea exposure training to the budding sailors, they were part to test in the open seas of Karwar with assistance from with General Thimmayya National Academy of Adventure (GTNAA).
At present 22 sailing cadets are being groomed to be future Olympic medalist at MEG. They have participated in various National/ International championships and won large number of medals in the recent past. Subedar Vishnu Saravanan, Cadet Koteswara Rao, Cadet Bharat, Cadet Pandey and Cadet Nagarjuna have been outshining in a short span of two years. In the recently held Mandya Multi Class sailing championship and YAI Youth Nationals, BSC sailors participated and won medals in all the categories with sterling performances. This success has been possible due to the unflinching full-fledged and continuous support of General Thimmayya National Academy of Adventure (GTNAA) along with Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of Karnataka which is facilitating development of sailing in Karnataka.
