Working journalists seek housing sites in Kolar

Society seeks land for journalist housing; government will examine feasibility and alternatives like KUDA and municipal plots

KOLAR

The Kolar district administration has assured journalists that steps will be taken to explore housing site allocation in the region. Deputy Commissioner Dr M R Ravi said the request for five acres of land submitted by the Kolar and Chikkaballapur Working Journalists Cooperative Society will be examined. He added that the administration will check legal options for allotting government land for housing purposes.

He also suggested that the society consider alternative routes through KUDA, municipal bodies, and public private partnership models. Officials referred to Mysuru where journalists were allotted sites through urban development authority as a possible model for Kolar. Society president K S Ganesh said many journalists in the district still live in rented houses without owning property. He said if five acres are allotted the society will develop layouts and distribute sites to eligible members. The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that feasibility of government land allotment will be verified before any final decision. He said other possibilities such as municipal council land, KUDA plots, and development partnerships would also be explored. Journalists present welcomed the initiative and urged the administration to speed up the process for housing allotment.

The administration said all legal checks will be completed before any allocation is formally approved for the society. It added that ensuring transparent procedures and fair distribution of land remains the top priority of the district government. The Deputy Commissioner also said that experiences from other districts will be studied carefully so that a suitable and legally sound housing solution can be created for journalists in Kolar while maintaining transparency accountability and public interest at all stages.
