Zahaan sails to fourth straight national title

Mumbai’s Zahaan Hemrajani secured his fourth consecutive O’pen Skiff U17 National title, winning seven out of eight races convincingly.

MUMBAI

Mumbai’s sailing prodigy Zahaan Hemrajani has once again dominated the waters, securing his fourth consecutive O’pen Skiff U17 National title. Facing a mix of tricky light winds and challenging choppy waves, Zahaan proved why he is the best in his class by winning seven out of eight races in a commanding performance.

His near-perfect scorecard featured only one minor setback. During a nail-biting finish in one race, Zahaan fought from behind to cross the line first, only to receive a penalty for clipping a marker boat. While he was officially placed fifth for that round, the tournament’s “discard rule” allowed him to drop that score, leaving him with an unbeatable final tally. This moment of grit perfectly highlighted the competitive fire that has fueled his four-year winning streak.

Under the guidance of the 24Seven Sailing program, Zahaan has spent the last year sharpening his technical skills and tactical mind. His ability to read the water and choose the fastest path has set him apart from his peers. Coaches say he is no longer just a “good sailor” but is evolving into a high-performing athlete who treats every challenge as a chance to learn.

With the World Championships in Italy just around the corner, this victory confirms that Zahaan is ready for the global stage. His mentor, Amish, noted that the young sailor is exactly where he needs to be. For Zahaan, the goal is now clear, taking his national success to the international level.
