Guarantee schemes gain global recognition: R. Shivanna

Chitradurga

District Guarantee Schemes Authority Chairman R. Shivanna said that the state government’s guarantee schemes have received international recognition and are being studied as a model by other states in India. He said these programmes have strengthened the state economy and improved the living standards of people, especially poor families.

He was speaking while chairing a progress review meeting of guarantee schemes held at the Zilla Panchayat Mini Hall in Chitradurga on Thursday.

Shivanna said that around 99 percent of eligible beneficiaries have already received benefits under the schemes. He warned against spreading false criticism based on isolated cases and said it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that benefits reach the last person in society.

He stressed the need to identify ineligible BPL cardholders and transfer benefits to genuine poor families. He directed officials to review cases where wealthy individuals may be misusing BPL cards and to update records based on income and landholding criteria.

Under the Annabhagya scheme, officials informed that over 14 lakh beneficiaries have received ration rice, and large quantities have been distributed in the district. Five FIRs have been registered for illegal transportation of rice, and licenses of violators have been cancelled. Shivanna also directed that fair price shops display information boards for public awareness.

On the Grihalakshmi scheme, he instructed officials to resolve technical issues related to e-KYC and NPCI so that no beneficiary is left without assistance. He also emphasized proper handling of cases involving deceased beneficiaries.

Regarding the Grihajyoti scheme, he said electricity services should not be denied on technical grounds, especially for poor families awaiting legal documents. He added that the government is fully supporting free electricity for eligible households.

Under the Shakti scheme, officials reported that over 6 crore women passengers have benefited from free bus travel in the district, with strict action being taken against misuse.

Shivanna also stressed skill training and employment support for Yuvanidhi beneficiaries and asked officials to maintain detailed data of all beneficiaries across schemes.

He said proper monitoring, transparency, and awareness are key to ensuring effective implementation of welfare programmes across the district.
