KOPPAL
Preparations are in full swing for the grand annual Jatra Mahotsav of Sri Huligemma Devi Temple, with authorities assuring complete arrangements for lakhs of devotees expected to attend the festival.
Koppal MP K. Rajasekhara Hitnala said all necessary facilities are being put in place to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for visitors. He was speaking at a press conference held at the office of the Sri Huligemma Devi Kshetra Development Authority.
The Jatra Mahotsav will be held from May 2 to May 14, with celebrations continuing for nearly a month. Devotees from across Karnataka, as well as neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, are expected to participate in large numbers. Officials estimate that over 30 lakh devotees may visit the temple this year, surpassing last year’s turnout of around 28 lakh.
Authorities have planned extensive arrangements including clean drinking water, temporary toilets, parking facilities, and free transport services for devotees. Special darshan systems and crowd management measures will also be implemented to avoid inconvenience.
A month-long Maha Dasoha programme will be organised from May 2, providing free meals and prasadam to all devotees. Temporary medical camps, ambulances, and fire safety units will be deployed to handle emergencies. Additional police personnel and CCTV surveillance will be in place to ensure security.
Officials said efforts are being made to improve water supply, with a proposal submitted to provide 7 MLD of water during the festival period.
Several development works are also underway at the temple site, including construction of residential complexes, new temple structures, sanitation facilities, and improved drainage systems. These projects aim to enhance infrastructure for future events and pilgrim convenience.
The MP appealed to devotees to participate in large numbers and contribute generously towards temple development and Maha Dasoha activities.
Officials and members of the development authority were present during the press meet and expressed confidence that this year’s Jatra Mahotsav will be conducted in a well-organised and grand manner.
