BELAGAVI
Basava Mahanta Mahaswamiji of Sirsangi Mahalingeshwara Mutt expressed disappointment over the reported defeat of the women’s reservation proposal in Parliament, calling it an unfortunate development. He said that Lord Basavanna had set a global example centuries ago by ensuring equal participation and respect for women through the Anubhava Mantapa system, and such ideals should guide modern governance.
He was speaking after inaugurating a two-day Vachana Darshana Pravachana, Ishta Linga Pooja, demonstration and Vachana recitation programme held in connection with Vishwaguru Basavanna Jayanti Utsav 2026, organized by the Global Lingayat Mahasabha district unit in association with Naganur Rudraksha Mutt.
The Swamiji said Basavanna is not limited to any one community but belongs to the entire world, as his teachings promote equality, social harmony and dignity for all. He urged people to move away from distractions such as mobile phones, serials and sports obsession, and instead focus on Vachana literature, which reflects social reality and ethical living.
He stressed that Basavanna’s philosophy broke barriers of caste and creed and united people under the principle that all are equal. Following such values, he said, would lead society towards peace and progress.
Several religious leaders including Sri Allamaprabhu Maha Swamiji, Sri Siddalinga Deva Swamiji and others participated in the event and offered blessings. A book titled “Basava Prabha” authored by Jayasheela Bakoda was released on the occasion. Cultural programmes and Vachana recitations added to the spiritual atmosphere of the event.
Organisers said the programme aimed to spread Basavanna’s message of equality and strengthen awareness about social reform ideals. Leaders present appealed to people to uphold these teachings in daily life for a more inclusive society.
