MUMBAI
Actress Tillotama Shome recently shared a touching story about staying grounded after her mother found her old 2001 Delhi bus pass. This simple piece of paper brought back a funny and deep memory from the start of her successful career.
In 2001, Shome flew to Venice for the premiere of the famous movie Monsoon Wedding. It was her first time traveling outside India. While sitting at a fancy Japanese restaurant with director Mira Nair, Shome tasted golden tempura for the very first time. Instead of being lost in the luxury of Italy, she suddenly went into a daze. When the director asked what she was thinking about, Shome replied that she was worried about when her bus pass would expire back home.
The story made everyone at the table laugh, but for Shome, it was a reminder of her true self. Even though she was experiencing global fame and new flavors, her mind was still connected to her everyday life in India. She credited her parents’ belief in her as the real force that helped her succeed, even when their financial reality was difficult.
Recently, the actress took a break from her busy schedule to relax with her family. She spent her time enjoying simple joys like sleeping on floor mattresses, drinking tea, and having long talks with her loved ones. For Shome, these moments prove that no matter how far you travel, staying connected to your roots is what truly matters.
