CHENNAI
Actor R. Madhavan is heading back to his roots as his 2002 blockbuster, Run, prepares for a grand re-release on April 24. Taking to social media, the star shared nostalgic posters and officially called the film the “game changer” that redefined his journey in Indian cinema.
Before Run, Madhavan was primarily known as the charming “boy next door” from romantic dramas. However, this high-octane film by director N. Lingusamy transformed him into a versatile action hero. The story of a young man caught in a dangerous chase for love struck a chord with the youth, particularly through iconic moments like the famous “shutter fight” sequence.
The film wasn’t just a solo effort, it featured a massive ensemble, including Meera Jasmine in her Tamil debut, the legendary Raghuvaran, and comedian Vivek. The music by Vidyasagar also became a massive hit, helping the film become one of the highest-grossing Tamil movies of its year. Its success was so great that it was eventually remade in several other languages.
For Madhavan, this re-release is more than just a trip down memory lane. It is a celebration of the milestone that proved he could handle intense, “masala” roles just as well as soft romance. As theaters prepare to screen the classic once again, a whole new generation of fans will get to experience why this film is considered a cultural touchstone of early 2000s cinema.
