A five-day National Service Scheme (NSS) camp was inaugurated at Ganwara village, an adopted village, by Sri Mahalakshmi Women’s Arts and Commerce Degree College on Friday, focusing on rural development and social awareness activities.
The inaugural ceremony was held at Trivikramananda Saraswati Mahaswamy Math High School, where the event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The camp aims to promote community service and encourage students to contribute to village development.
Former MLA and JD(S) State Secretary S. Doddappa Gowda Patil addressed the gathering and said that the NSS programme reflects the spirit of nation-building. He stressed that true national development is only possible when villages develop.
He urged students to actively participate in awareness programmes during the camp, including cleanliness drives, environmental protection, tree plantation, and legal awareness campaigns. He also called for strong messages against social issues such as child marriage and dowry system in the adopted village.
The event was attended by several local leaders, educationists, and members of the gram panchayat, who appreciated the initiative. Organisers said that the camp would include a range of activities designed to connect students with rural communities and encourage social responsibility.
College faculty members and NSS coordinators highlighted that such camps help students understand real-life social issues while contributing to community welfare. They added that these experiences shape responsible citizens and future leaders.
Students participated actively in the programme, contributing to cultural activities and service-oriented tasks planned for the camp period.
The event concluded with a message that empowering villages is key to strengthening the nation’s overall development.
