A food safety training and certification program was organized in Gokarna to educate food business operators on hygiene, safety standards, and regulatory practices.

The one-day training program was conducted at a community hall under the initiative of the Food Safety Training and Certification Centre. The session aimed to create awareness among food vendors about maintaining quality, cleanliness, and safe food handling practices.
The program was inaugurated by Panchayat Development Officer V.A. Patgar, who emphasized the importance of hygiene and health in daily life. He urged food business operators to adopt better practices to ensure public safety and improve service standards.
Senior Health Inspector Dinesh Nayak addressed the participants and highlighted the need for strict adherence to food safety guidelines. He stressed that maintaining proper hygiene, cleanliness of surroundings, and quality standards is essential for protecting consumer health. He also encouraged vendors to actively implement the knowledge gained through such training programs in their daily operations.
Former Food Safety Officer and trainer Arun Kashibhat spoke about the importance of structured guidelines in food preparation and handling. He explained various safety measures, cleanliness protocols, and regulatory requirements that food vendors must follow. He also emphasized that obtaining certification is becoming increasingly important and urged all food business operators to complete the process.
Health Inspector Mahantesh Hugar pointed out that Gokarna, being a major tourist destination, requires higher standards of food safety and hygiene. He noted that ensuring quality food and clean surroundings is essential for maintaining the town’s reputation among visitors.
Officials further informed that similar training programs are being conducted across different taluks of the district, encouraging all food vendors to obtain the necessary certification under the Food Safety Training and Certification initiative.
The session included detailed guidance on food handling, safety precautions, hygiene maintenance, and regulatory compliance. Participants appreciated the initiative and acknowledged its importance in improving their business practices.
