Haveri
Households in Haveri district are witnessing a sharp rise in electricity consumption due to an ongoing shortage of cooking gas cylinders. The disruption in supply is linked to the escalating conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States, which has impacted global gas availability.
Hescom Chairman Azzamfir Qadri stated that the shortage has forced residents to rely on electric stoves for daily cooking, significantly increasing domestic power usage. Speaking near Bankapur in Shiggaon taluk, he confirmed that electricity consumption in the seven districts under Hescom has jumped noticeably compared to last year.
Data shows that in March last year, 182.03 million units of electricity were consumed, whereas in March this year, the figure rose to 188 million units. This represents an increase of nearly 5.97 million units in just one year, highlighting the impact of the gas shortage on household energy demands.
Qadri emphasized that the trend reflects the common man’s shift to electric cooking in the absence of sufficient gas supply. The sudden spike in electricity use underscores the strain on domestic energy resources and the growing dependence on electricity for daily cooking needs.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge residents to use power responsibly as the crisis persists. The region is witnessing a clear shift in household energy patterns, with electric stoves becoming a primary cooking method until gas supplies stabilize.
