Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra on Tuesday chaired a meeting with officials and stakeholders, in the wake of a controversy that erupted, after a temple-like structure was noticed during work being done, as part of the renovation of a mosque, in Malali near Ganjimutt in the city’s outskirts, last month.
The DC told the media, that the matter is already in court, and a temporary injunction has been issued to all the parties, especially, to the president of Jumma Masjid. In the meantime, several organisations have given memorandums to the district administration. The administration has gone through several documents, however, since the issue is in the court, it is sub judice, he said.
The meeting was held with local officials, including those from the gram panchayat, wakf, endowment department, state archaeology department, revenue and senior police officials. The DC said that the mosque management committee has stated that they are fighting the case in court, and that all relevant documents will be submitted to the court, he said.
What matters here is the legal documents. We don’t have to hold rituals conducted by certain organisations from a legal perspective. The court will take an appropriate decision. The Dakshina Kannada district administration, with the help of the commissioner of police, who is the additional magistrate, will take care of the law and order situation, Rajendra said
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) will conduct ‘tambula prashne’ on Wednesday, under the guidance of astrologers from Kerala, in order to find a solution to the controversy.
