India shines as ‘Country of the Year’ at BIOFACH 2026

Blurb: This designation marks India’s return to the centre stage of global organic farming after 14 years.

New Delhi

India has been named Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for organic products, to be held in Nuremberg, Germany, from February 10 to 13. The recognition highlights India’s growing strength in organic farming and exports, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority is organising India’s participation with a large and high impact presence. Officials said this year’s involvement is much bigger than earlier editions, showing rising global demand for Indian organic products and stronger participation from exporters, farmer groups and associations.

The India Country Pavilion will cover 1,074 square metres and host 67 co exhibitors. These include organic exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations, cooperatives, testing laboratories, state agencies and commodity boards. A wide range of products will be displayed, including rice, oilseeds, pulses, herbs, spices, cashew, ginger, turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, mango puree and essential oils.

Exhibitors from over twenty states and union territories are taking part, reflecting India’s rich agricultural diversity. Regions represented include Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir, among others.

Visitors will also experience curated food tastings at the pavilion. Live sampling of biryani made with organic basmati rice and spices will be offered. Five GI tagged rice varieties, including Indrayani, Navara, Gobindbhog, Red rice and Chak Hao, will showcase India’s heritage crops.

APEDA has planned extensive branding across the exhibition venue. Officials said India’s Country of the Year status strengthens its image as a global leader in sustainable and environmentally responsible organic agriculture. Officials said the honour will help expand exports, attract buyers, support farmers, encourage organic cultivation, and strengthen long term trade partnerships while promoting India’s commitment to quality, sustainability, innovation, and inclusive agricultural growth worldwide globally.
