A case of theft was reported from Kalaburagi, where a woman travelling in a city bus lost gold ornaments worth approximately ₹4.50 lakh after her vanity bag was stolen. The incident occurred near the busy Ram Mandir area, causing concern among commuters and residents.
According to police sources, the woman was travelling by bus when unidentified miscreants allegedly stole her vanity bag without her immediate knowledge. The bag reportedly contained gold jewellery weighing several grams, collectively valued at around ₹4.50 lakh. The theft is believed to have taken place amid the rush inside the bus, suggesting the involvement of skilled pickpockets.
The victim realised the theft only after getting down from the bus near the Ram Mandir area. She immediately alerted the police and lodged a complaint detailing the missing jewellery. Police officials said preliminary investigations indicate that the accused may have taken advantage of the crowded bus and diverted the victim’s attention before stealing the bag.
Following the complaint, police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to identify the suspects by reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and bus routes. Police are also questioning bus staff and regular commuters to gather additional clues that could help trace the accused.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by passengers carrying valuables while travelling on public transport. Police have advised commuters, especially women, to remain vigilant and avoid carrying large quantities of cash or jewellery during bus journeys. They have also urged passengers to keep their belongings securely fastened and within sight at all times.
Residents have expressed concern over the recurring incidents of theft in crowded public places across the city. Many have called for increased police patrolling and better surveillance, particularly in high-traffic areas such as bus stops and major religious landmarks.
As the investigation continues, police have appealed to the public to share any information that may assist in identifying the culprits. The case serves as a reminder of the need for heightened awareness and preventive measures to ensure commuter safety in Kalaburagi.
