Chief Minister MK Stalin described the start of vehicle production by Tata Motors in Ranipet as a major industrial achievement for Tamil Nadu. Addressing the inauguration of the Tata Motors passenger vehicle and Jaguar Land Rover plant at Panapakkam, he called the occasion a “golden day” for the state. He thanked the Tata Group for investing Rs 9,000 crore in the district and said the company’s confidence in Tamil Nadu reflected the state’s strong industrial environment.

Stalin said he was pleased that Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran personally attended the event, recalling his earlier request for him to be present when manufacturing began. He highlighted the Tata Group’s contribution to India’s development in sectors such as steel, IT, and automobiles, and praised the brand for its quality and reputation.

The Chief Minister noted that Tamil Nadu has a long association with the Tata Group and remains a leading hub for automobile and electric vehicle manufacturing. He welcomed Tata JLR into the state’s expanding auto ecosystem and said the rollout of the first Land Rover vehicle was a moment of pride.

He attributed the state’s progress to the Dravidian Model of governance and stressed the importance of converting investment agreements into operational projects. Stalin said the government would continue supporting investors, promoting women’s empowerment, and organising an investors’ meet. He encouraged Tata to expand further, particularly in research and development. The new greenfield plant will make conventional and electric vehicles and is expected to create about 5,000 direct jobs, strengthening regional growth and supply chains.
