HDK on state politics
BENGALURU
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy clarified that he will not stay away from Karnataka’s state politics, but the timing of his return will depend on public sentiment.
“I am in politics. The people of the state decide where I should be. I will decide when to enter state politics based on their wishes,” Kumaraswamy told the media near his residence. He reiterated that his current role at the Centre, where he oversees two departments, is a responsibility entrusted by the Prime Minister and allows him to work honestly. “I cannot escape my duty, but I will decide when to return to state politics,” he added.
Kumaraswamy also commented on administrative issues in the state. Highlighting the Shidlaghatta incident, where a Congress leader allegedly threatened an officer, he said, “This is disturbing. No party worker or leader should behave inappropriately with officials. Strict action in a few cases will serve as a lesson.”
He criticised a trend of pressuring officials to engage in illegal activities, which he attributed to a government “not in order.” “Officers should perform their duties with integrity. Succumbing to pressure or personal ambitions can have serious consequences,” he warned, citing the Lokayukta ruling on Vikas Soudha construction irregularities eight years after officers violated norms.
Kumaraswamy emphasised the importance of conscience-driven governance. “Officials must not work under pressure from public representatives. Follow the rules and regulations, and ensure that government work is carried out fairly and transparently,” he said.
The Union Minister’s remarks underline a careful balancing act between his current national responsibilities and future political ambitions in Karnataka, leaving the timing of his state-level return open-ended but clearly imminent.
