The Delhi Police Crime Branch has caught a big drug gang that was moving opium between Bareilly and Delhi. The police found 16.24 kilograms of opium and arrested four people linked to this illegal group.
The police got a tip-off on July 25 that two men, Hari Shankar and Vikas, were carrying a large amount of opium from Bareilly to Delhi. A special police team stopped their car near Bhairav Road underpass on Ring Road. When they searched the car, they found three bags of opium.
Hari Shankar (22), Vipin Sharma (35), and Vikas (20) were arrested at the spot. A case was registered under the NDPS Act. Later, on August 23, Ajay Verma (22), another gang member, was arrested in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. He was supplying opium to the group.
The gang used poor and young people to move the drugs. Hari Shankar was a courier, Vipin Sharma was the driver, and Vikas helped carry the opium. The group was controlled by a man named Rahul from Bareilly, who had links with a Nigerian national called Jean.
Police said they are still investigating and trying to catch more gang members.
