BBMP steps up pothole repairs in BTM

Residents Welcome BBMP’s Drive but Demand Lasting Road

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has intensified its efforts to repair potholes across major roads in BTM Layout, a key traffic hub in the city’s south zone. Ward engineers, under the supervision of zonal officials, are working on filling potholes at critical junctions to ensure smoother traffic flow and improve road safety.

Commuters in BTM Layout have long complained about the poor condition of roads, especially during the monsoon, when waterlogging worsens potholes and leads to traffic snarls. BBMP officials said the ongoing drive is part of a larger initiative to restore damaged stretches in the area and minimise accidents caused by uneven road surfaces.

The civic body Is using a mix of cold asphalt and quick-dry materials to speed up the repair process. According to officials, priority has been given to stretches near major intersections, bus stops, and school zones, where heavy traffic flow increases the risk of accidents. Engineers have also been instructed to maintain quality standards to prevent the newly repaired patches from deteriorating quickly.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and BBMP Chief Commissioner have directed engineers to take up pothole-filling as a continuous exercise rather than a seasonal measure. They emphasised that Bengaluru’s status as a growing global city demands better road infrastructure and regular upkeep.

Residents have welcomed the move but urged the civic body to focus on long-term road maintenance instead of temporary fixes, stressing that quality roads are essential to ease traffic congestion in the city.
