Parliamentary defence panel reviews DRDO projects

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence (SCoD) concluded a two-day study tour in Bengaluru on August 22–23, focusing on the status and progress of various programmes and projects under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The visit was led by Committee Chairman Radha Mohan Singh, accompanied by several Members of Parliament.

During the tour, the committee held detailed discussions with senior DRDO officials, including the Secretary of the Department of Defence (R&D) and Chairman of DRDO. The deliberations centered on the theme “Status of Upgradation of Various Programmes and Projects of DRDO.” Officials provided a comprehensive briefing on the ongoing initiatives and technological advancements being pursued in the domain of aeronautical systems and cutting-edge defence technologies.

The committeee was apprised of key developments in areas such as indigenous aircraft programmes, advanced unmanned aerial systems, and innovations aimed at strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The briefing also covered ongoing collaborations with public and private sector partners, alongside the strategic importance of accelerating research to meet emerging security challenges.

Sources indicated that the MPs sought clarity on timelines, cost-effectiveness, and the practical deployment of new technologies for the armed forces. The panel is expected to submit its observations and recommendations to Parliament, which may help shape future policy decisions in the defence sector.

The visit reaffirmed the government’s focus on enhancing domestic capabilities in defence research and reducing dependence on foreign technology, aligning with the national vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” in defence.
