Prime Minister Narendra Modi will showcase India’s growing strength in aviation and space this week by inaugurating Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility and unveiling Skyroot’s first orbital rocket.
On November 26, PM Modi will inaugurate the SAESI facility, Safran’s dedicated Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) center for LEAP engines that power Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) described it as a major step toward Aatmanirbharta in aviation.
Spread across 45,000 square meters in GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park-SEZ, the Rs 1,300 crore facility is designed to service up to 300 engines annually. By 2035, it will employ over 1,000 skilled Indian technicians and engineers. The PMO said the facility will reduce foreign exchange outflows, create high-value jobs, and position India as a global aviation hub.
Government reforms, including GST changes in 2024, MRO Guidelines 2021, and the National Civil Aviation Policy 2016, have simplified operations for MRO providers, boosting sector growth.
On November 27, PM Modi will also unveil Skyroot’s first orbital rocket, Vikram-I, and inaugurate its Infinity Campus via video conferencing. The campus, spread over 200,000 square feet, will design, develop, and test launch vehicles, with capacity to build one orbital rocket every month.
Skyroot, founded by IIT alumni and former ISRO scientists Pawan Chandana and Bharath Dhaka, earlier launched Vikram-S in 2022. The PMO said the rise of private space enterprises reflects India’s success in reforms and its growing role as a global space power.
