A 4.1 magnitude earthquake hit the area north of Sydney in New South Wales (NSW) on Tuesday, causing power outages in thousands of homes.

The tremor, recorded by Geoscience Australia at approximately 12:15 pm local time, was centered near a BHP open-cut coal mine in the Upper Hunter region, roughly 170 kilometers from Sydney. The earthquake occurred at a depth of three kilometers.

While no injuries or significant damage have been reported, over 2,000 properties experienced power disruptions. More than 350 people reported feeling the quake.

This incident follows more than 50 tremors in the Upper Hunter region, a significant coal mining area, since a 4.7-magnitude quake in August.
