Shiggaon byelection features three candidates with international backgrounds. Congress’s Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan, a former International boxer; BJP’s Bharath Bommai, an SMU alumnus and KRS’s Ravi Krishna Reddy, a US-based software engineer. These candidates, all under 50, have won support for their unique development plans.
These contestants have garnered statewide attention. Each brings distinct proposals for constituency development. Pathan represented India in international boxing in Thailand in 2003. He began as a wrestler, transitioning to boxing after Class X, achieving success at state and national competitions. If my father did not die in an accident, I would have been in sports, but I got responsibility during my graduation, so I was busy in agriculture, and business, and started social work. I couldn’t concentrate on sports, but I am very happy about my sports career because I represented my nation in boxing,” Pathan stated.
Bharath Bommai completed his postgraduate studies at Singapore Management University in 2013-14, following his graduation from Purdue University, USA. He serves as an Executive Director in Industrial Automation, specialising in capital markets, business planning, and investment strategies. Post-Singapore, he established his own enterprise. At 35, he is the youngest contestant in the Shiggaon fray.
The third significant candidate, 49-year-old Ravi Krishna Reddy, founded KRS. I worked 12 years in the software field and I was mostly in the US during this time, but there was an urge within me to serve society. I started my political career with the Aam Aadmi Party and recently founded the Karnataka Rashtra Samiti. Not just politics, my associates are involved in anti-corruption activities, Reddy explained.
