The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revoked the affiliation of 21 schools in Rajasthan and Delhi due to high numbers of non-attending students in classes IX-XII. In addition, six schools in Delhi were downgraded from senior secondary to secondary level following irregularities found during surprise inspections.
On September 3, CBSE conducted surprise inspections across 27 schools in Rajasthan and Delhi to check compliance with its attendance norms. The inspections aimed to ensure that schools were adhering to the Board’s guidelines on regular student attendance. After the inspections, the CBSE issued Show Cause Notices to the schools, giving them 30 days to respond.
Upon reviewing the responses and examining video evidence, the Board decided to withdraw affiliation from 21 schools due to the significant absenteeism of students. Five of these schools were located in Rajasthan, and 16 in Delhi. The six downgraded schools, all in Delhi, were reduced to secondary level for failing to meet the required standards.
CBSE stated that the practice of dummy admissions, where students are enrolled but do not attend, undermines the educational system. The Board emphasized that such practices hinder students’ development and announced strict actions to curb the issue, warning all affiliated schools against accepting non-attending students.
