The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $311 million loan to enhance Nepal’s electricity transmission and distribution systems, focusing on modernization and infrastructure improvements.
This project will fund the construction of 290 kilometers of new transmission lines across Nepal, aiming to expand, strengthen, and rehabilitate critical power distribution infrastructure, as reported sources.
In addition to enhancing the distribution network, the project will support the Nepal Electricity Authority in upgrading its training facilities, expanding its smart meter rollout, creating a data recovery center, and establishing a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) network.
To further support the initiative, the ADB will provide an additional $30 million grant through its Asian Development Fund, targeting Nepal as one of the bank’s most vulnerable member countries.
