The Corpus Christi Church marked the feast of St Charles Borromeo, the patron saint of catechists, and celebrated the 60th birthday of their beloved Parish Priest, Fr Onil D’Souza, with a special Eucharistic celebration and community gathering.
The festivities began with a reverent adoration of the Holy Eucharist led by Zita Noronha, followed by a Eucharistic Mass, with catechism teachers taking active roles in the liturgy. During the Mass, catechists processed to the altar with burning lamps, symbolizing their commitment to guiding and educating the faithful.
Following the service, a celebration honouring Fr Onil’s milestone birthday was held at the church verandah. Parishioners gathered as Fr Onil cut a beautifully decorated cake, while the church choir performed a heartfelt birthday song in his honour. The lively celebration was further enriched by a birthday tune played by the band and well-wishes from all attendees.
Church secretary Norbert Martis raised a toast to Fr Onil, commending his dedicated service and leadership. Heads of various church associations presented him with flowers as tokens of appreciation and support.
Expressing gratitude, Fr Onil thanked the parish community for their thoughtful gestures. The morning concluded with a hearty breakfast shared by all, symbolizing unity and fellowship among the parishioners on this joyful occasion.
