Belagavi
During the recent general body meeting of the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC), several key issues were addressed, including tax collection and the approval of development projects for the upcoming year. Concerns were raised regarding land acquisition for the Tilakwadi Road widening, specifically involving Harishchandra M Pai. The meeting also discussed necessary repairs to underground drainage lines in Chatrapati Shivaji Nagar and Brahmling Galli.
Deputy Commissioner Laxmi Nippanikar reported on leased properties, stating that notices have been issued for dues recovery from 25 properties before new tenders are invited. Corporators, including Hanumant Kongali and Girish Dhongadi, expressed frustration over rampant encroachment and unauthorized constructions in all 58 wards, urging immediate action from officials.
Dhongadi further criticized the underutilization of a sports complex in Mahantesh Nagar, built at considerable cost but lying vacant for years. MLA Asif Raju Sait suggested private management of sports facilities and proposed organizing the Mayor Cup tournament, with potential funding support from the corporation.
The meeting, presided over by Mayor Savita Kamble, included contributions from Deputy Mayor Anand Chauhan, BCC Commissioner B Shubha, and other officials, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts to address these pressing challenges.
