India’s smartphone shipments grew by 3% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2024, with Samsung leading the market by value, holding a 23% share, closely followed by Apple at 22%, according to a report released on Wednesday.

The overall value of the Indian smartphone market increased by 12% compared to the previous year, reaching a record high for a single quarter. Notably, 5G smartphones achieved their largest share ever, accounting for 81% of total shipments.

Senior research analyst Prachir Singh noted that the market is shifting towards value growth, driven by a trend toward premium products, supported by attractive EMI options and trade-in deals. Samsung has focused on promoting its flagship Galaxy S series while enhancing its value-driven A series by integrating Galaxy AI features into mid-range and affordable models.

Apple has also made significant strides, especially in smaller cities, boosting its sales with the launch of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 ahead of the festive season. The brand’s aspirational image and expanding presence have solidified its position as a top choice for premium smartphone buyers in India.

The brand Nothing emerged as the fastest-growing smartphone brand for the third consecutive quarter, recording a remarkable 510% year-on-year growth in shipments and breaking into the top 10 for the first time. This growth was attributed to its expanded product lineup, effective market strategies, and partnerships with over 800 multi-brand outlets in more than 45 cities.
