The Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, on Monday launched a new mobile app to resolve rice millers’ grievances. The app, introduced by the Food Corporation of India (FCI), aims to improve transparency and accountability in addressing millers’ concerns.

Minister Joshi emphasized the government’s focus on creating an efficient grievance redressal system. Rice millers can now register complaints directly on the app, and a three-member team will be dispatched within three days to investigate and propose solutions. The goal is to resolve all issues within seven days.

If the millers are unsatisfied, their concerns will be escalated to higher officials for further review. The app also uses geofencing technology to track the response teams’ movements.

Joshi mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi regularly inquires about the grievance redressal mechanisms during cabinet meetings, urging the ministry to make the process more farmer- and consumer-friendly. He reassured farmers that rice procurement would continue as promised, with 5 lakh metric tons expected to be lifted soon.

FCI Secretary Sanjiv Chopra noted that the corporation procures around 550 lakh metric tons of rice annually, and the app will help streamline the response to millers’ issues.
