Two Kannada films, ‘Kerebete’ and ‘Venkya’, have been selected for the Indian Panorama Feature Film category at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). This year’s festival will be held in Panaji, Goa, from November 20 to 28, featuring an impressive lineup of 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films. ‘Kerebete’ and ‘Venkya’ stood out among 384 entries to secure their spots.
‘Kerebete’ will have the honor of being the second film shown in the Indian Panorama, right after the opening film, ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’. Directed by Rajguru, this marks his debut as a filmmaker. The film premiered on March 15 and stars Gowrishankar, who also produced it. The cast includes talented actors such as Gopal Deshpande, Sampath Kumar, Harini, and Bindu Gowda. The storyline delves into the traditional practice of upland fish hunting within a village setting.
‘Venkya’, directed by Sagar Puranik, will also represent Kannada cinema at this prestigious festival. The inclusion of these films highlights the rich storytelling and cultural narratives present in Kannada cinema today.
