Mangaluru
The annual Namma Kudla Goodudeepa Competition will take place at Gokarnanatheshwara Temple on October 30. Harish B. Karkera, one of the event organizers, addressed the media, highlighting the competition’s goal to revive the traditional Goodudeepas, which are lit in homes during Deepavali but are fading from public awareness. The Namma Kudla channel promotes this initiative through the competition.
Since its inception, the competition has fostered a competitive spirit among participants, awarding a gold medal to winners. The event is open to all ages and features three categories: traditional, modern, and replica. In each category, first and second-place winners will receive gold medals, while three third-place winners will receive silver medals, along with 50 consolation prizes.
In addition to the Goodudeepa competition, the Namma Tuluver Award will recognize individuals serving society in Tulunadu. This year, actor Suman Talwar will receive the Namma Kudla Award. The Namma Tuluver Award will be given to Sarvottam Shetty from Abu Dhabi for his contributions to various organizations. The Bangalore Billava Association will receive the BP Karkera Seva Award for exceptional service, while Shashilekha Balakrishna will be honored with the Lakshmi Karkera Seva Award for her contributions to education. Additionally, the Bala Pratibha Puraskar will be awarded to four-year-old Trishna Naveen, recognized for her remarkable performance during the recent Mangaluru Dasara procession.
