Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the significant role of infrastructure projects in enhancing tourism and generating employment opportunities during a conference on Friday organized by the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) in Goa.
In a message delivered on the second and final day of the conference, Gadkari highlighted the hospitality sector’s importance in driving the country’s economic growth. He noted that the government’s focus on developing religious and tourist destinations, along with new expressways and improved facilities at tourist sites, is integral to boosting tourism.
“The Union government is developing 18 additional tourist destinations, with many projects nearing completion, which will further enhance tourism in our country,” Gadkari stated. He pointed out that tourists are increasingly exploring not only pilgrimage sites but also modern cities and unique tourist locations.
The conference gathered hoteliers, restaurateurs, and industry experts to discuss sustainability and emerging trends aimed at enhancing business operations within India’s hospitality industry. Mugdha Sinha, Director General of Tourism at the Union Ministry of Tourism, stressed the importance of attracting international wedding tourism. She suggested that improving direct flight connectivity, simplifying visa processes, and offering curated itineraries could position India as the ultimate wedding destination.
With weddings in India evolving into significant cultural events and economic drivers, Sinha noted that the market is second only to China, presenting immense growth opportunities. Chander Baljee, CMD of Royal Orchid Hotels, emphasized the necessity for businesses to remain agile and embrace digitalization to stay competitive in the ever-evolving hospitality landscape.
