Canadian MPs intensify calls for Trudeau’s resignation

OTTAWA

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is facing increasing pressure to resign, with at least 20 Members of Parliament (MPs) from his own Liberal Party planning to formally demand his ouster. The initiative, reported by sources on Thursday, is seen as gaining momentum and may soon become a serious effort to force Trudeau from leadership.

According to the report, the demand for Trudeau’s resignation will be presented in two phases. The first will involve a written statement expected this weekend, highlighting that constituents are urging MPs for a change in leadership. The second phase will occur during the next party caucus meeting in Ottawa, scheduled for Wednesday, where MPs will voice their concerns openly.

Trudeau’s testimony at a public inquiry into foreign interference in Canada’s electoral processes has drawn further criticism, particularly after he suggested he has the names of Conservative MPs involved in foreign interference. Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre challenged Trudeau to disclose these names, accusing him of using misleading claims to deflect attention from the growing dissatisfaction within his party.

This turmoil comes as Trudeau admitted that Ottawa had only received some intelligence inputs without ‘hard proofs’ before accusing India of being involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year. The Indian government has repeatedly criticized Trudeau’s allegations as politically motivated and unsubstantiated, stating that he is responsible for the damage caused to India-Canada relations.
