Olectra has been selected as the lowest bidder for supplying 327 electric buses to the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC). The buses will support green mobility in the state.

HRTC had invited bids for 327 buses, consisting of 297 nine-meter buses and 30 twelve-meter buses. The tendering process was conducted, and Olectra and Switch Mobility were technically qualified. Olectra’s bid was determined to be the lowest, and the order is expected to be finalized soon.

The new buses from Olectra are planned to include modern features such as driver assistance systems, air suspension, disc brakes with stability control, and better maneuverability. The nine-meter buses will have a range of 180 kilometers on a single charge, with seating for 30 passengers, while the twelve-meter buses will offer a range of 250 kilometers and have 37 seats.

The introduction of electric buses in Himachal Pradesh began in September 2017. At that time, 25 buses were launched for service between Kullu, Manali, and Rohtang Pass. These buses were the first in the world to operate at an altitude of 13,000 feet.

HRTC, which recently completed 50 years of service, is working to provide sustainable transportation to the citizens of Himachal Pradesh.
